Canary Tactical is a long-standing and tight-knit community which has played the Arma franchise for some time. Our purpose is to provide serious military simulation without the added 'milsim-isms' of many other groups in the Arma scene. No training schedule, no calling people 'sir,' and no sweaty tryharding!
One of the best words I can use to describe our Arma play is dynamic. We strive for great variety in our Arma sessions in many forms.
We do not constrain ourselves to any particular faction, nor do we have a proclivity to any type of mission. In a single night, we may have one mission where we are acting as a Soviet air assault during the Cold War and in the very next be engaging in Guerrilla warfare in the mountains of Takistan. From precise and quiet night-time insertions to crude and grandiose beach assaults, our members experience the full spectrum of combat the game can offer us.
Not only do we strive for constant variety of missions and factions, but our members themselves are able to vary their roles from mission to mission. In Canary Tactical, roles are not static or predefined. As each mission starts, roles are open to all qualified to take them on a first-come, first-serve basis (with occasional caveats for special missions or events). Not only can a member of the community expect to be in a different terrain doing a different mission between two missions on the same night, they can fully expect to have fundamentally different roles. Assuming they were “quick on the draw,” a member could be a Bradley gunner in one mission and a combat medic the next.
Without regular mandatory trainings for members, Canary Tactical improves itself through its experiences during regular sessions, as well as voluntary instruction in specific specialist roles. While you will be required to attend an orientation of sorts upon joining to ensure that you will know how to use all of ours mods as well as the most basic concepts of our community, you will not be expected to bring yourself to any lengthy training events. Members are encouraged, however, to meet with experienced members in order to qualify themselves for specialist roles they are interested in.
We do not view Arma as something to be beat, but something to be experienced. While we certainly never go into a mission wanting to fail fantastically, we do prioritize challenging and engaging gameplay over missions we are sure to win. For the most part, we forego powerful optics and overpowering fire support, being sure that we use our assets in moderation for the cultivation of a more tense scenario.
Some of our community’s most memorable moments are those where victory was never certain or defeat was assured. We cherish those annihilations in spite of our hardest efforts far more than we ever do missions we have breezed through.
Canary Tactical’s primary Arma session takes place each Saturday evening at 6:00 PM Central Time (US), and generally lasts well into the night.
Taking place in the evening on the weekend, this time is to ensure the highest range of availability for current and potential members. While predominantly a North American unit, we have European and occasional Oceanic membership.
Further, while the session proper starts at 6:00 PM, it continues throughout the evening into the night, and most of the time the session spans multiple individual missions. This means that if you can’t show up at 6:00, but can show up at 7:30, you can still join a mission in progress or await the next mission, being able to partake in at least most of the session. Have to go to bed early or can’t stick around for the full session? That’s okay too! Play to the end of your mission if possible, and “bow out” before the next one starts or grab a lower-priority mission slot (like a basic rifleman) if you think you may have to leave mid-mission. We know our members have personal things to attend to, and only wish that our members wish to remain active and keep admins and mission makers in the loop about possible lack of attendance.
We are always eager to bring in fresh faces into our community! While somewhat smaller than other groups, our years-old and tight-knit group has much to offer prospective members, and we are eager to expand with you!
We have a no-frills process for bringing people in, which you can find by navigating to our recruitment page.
Regardless if you choose us to play Arma with, we hope that you love playing Arma as much as we have wherever you end up!
